Aeon Zen

Last weekend me & Ad went to watch the amazing Devin. Obviously he was life changing & has a rubber face matched by no one (we even got a bit of Ziltoid woop) but at risk of upsetting everyone who was there, I want to waffle on a bit about the support act - Aeon Zen.

Aeon Zen are the shit. They play very cheesy 80's style prog with a massive dose of irony, they're totally epic! It's been a loooooong time since I've seen a support band who actually warmed the crowd up, but they had people singing along & shouting 'woah!' & 'cool!'. The best way I can describe them is like Symphony X but better. The front man is hilarious & had the band cracking up - but not through jokes or larking about, simply through the inherent comedy that 80's prog is made of. They had pulled out particularly profound lyrics & floated them on screens in time with the music, they pulled faces & got VERY involved with their solos.

On top of that though, they are also genuinely progressive. Their musicianship allows them to really experiment with a genre that many fail at through being too formulaic. The song structure was often unexpected & the solos were technically very good, & all while still staying true to what great 80's prog should sound like.

Check em out!
